Press Release Body = Cary, North Carolina February 3, 2007 - Are you a food history
buff interested in why American food is bland in some parts of the country, tart and
spicy in another part and entrenched with everything fried in another. The Town of
Morrisville, Cedar Forks Community Center is offering a monthly series of classes
entitle a Taste of History. This month the class is entitled "A Taste of History:
The American Love Affair with Rice." Food History enthusiast, Detra Denay Davis
will discuss a brief history of rice production in America, the types of rice
available today; and participants will sample a simple Spanish Paella, Japanese
Chirashi-zushi (Vinegared Rice with Flavored Vegetables); and Rice Singapore , a
dessert fit for a queen. Recipes will be provided; participants will not be cooking
in the class.

Detra Denay Davis (a.k.a.) Cooking with Denay provides private and public cooking
lessons to Triangle Residents. She is a member of the Southern Foodways Alliance
(http://www.southernfoodways.com); and
reminds us affectionately ".we are responsible for the history we leave in the
history book, the way we eat, cook, and cultivate our farms is a direct reflection
of our commitment to good, dare I say great food."

Truly no stranger to the culinary field, Denay has been a cook, food stylist, and
caterer, pastry assistant, cooking instructor and all round food enthusiast for more
than forty years. "I remember sending off for a free cookbook using the label off a
Campbell soup can at the ripe old age of ten.

Denay insist that her students create their own style of cooking and believes,
"cooking is not just about food, it's about memories, tradition and having fun in
the kitchen.

According to Denay, "it is not how often you cook, but how well you cook that really
matters. If you just have a few deliciously sinful recipes under your belt, you
will always be able to experience a divine dine."
